The Alice's Restaurant Masacree

11/23/2017

It’s not officially Thanksgiving until you hear Alice’s Restaurant, right?  But did you know the song has a #Poughkeepsie connection?  We all know that Arlo Guthrie was there for The Massacree but did you know his friend and traveling companion for the holiday trip was Richard J. Robbins of Poughkeepsie? As Paul Harvey would say, “Now you know the rest of the story.”

Just sent a message to Bill Duke on Facebook to get his thoughts on Poughkeepsie.  You most likely know Bill from the movie Predator, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, where he played Mac, or maybe from Car Wash, where he played Duane/Abdullah. Fingers crossed, hoping for a response!

Poughkeepsie on Kickstarter

Cool find on Kickstarter (though a couple of months too late to take part, unfortunately).

A short film about Alzheimers, time travel and redemption.

Poughkeepsie is a 20-minute short film about George Dawes, a late-stage Alzheimer’s patient facing his        final days with a fractured sense of reality and a heart full of regrets. He is haunted by a terrible marriage, the death of his daughter and his subsequent bad parenting of his granddaughter, Elaine. His final days look bleak.
However, in his moments of mental instability, George discovers a strange and unpredictable ability to go back in time. Are these momentary fantasies generated by his failing mind? Or has the universe cracked open to offer George a second chance to right the wrongs of his life and save his daughter before it's too late?

I added a category for actual Poughkeepsie locations used in movies and found out Toxic Avenger IV was filmed here!  It was just released in 2000, was anyone around when it was being filmed?

After a year or two of thinking about it, I've finally gone live on a site.  Let me know what you think!  If you have links to anything I've missed let me know.  I'll be adding content as I find it.

I was born in Poughkeepsie in the 70's and grew up hearing it mentioned  on TV seemingly all the time.  I decided to find all of the instances I could of Poughkeepsie showing up in pop culture.
